Artist's Statement:
Everyday I walk across the streets of New York and notice the urban markings and various surfaces and gravely textures of the urban floor. The streets are embedded with layers of materials, cracks, and patterns of use. I find visual inspiration in the way these elements interact but also I am drawn to the idea
of 'the ground' as a symbolic support, part of my relationship with something bigger than myself.
In my recent project Groundscapes, I used sandpaper to emboss wood and generated many relief prints to use as raw collage material. As the prints are layered on top of drawings, traditional perspective becomes juxtaposed with textured shapes and spatial relationships are shifted and enlivened by the printed surface.

In March 2016, Manhattan Graphics Center's Project Space
will feature a show of photogravures made by members.
The show is open to any and all who have made photogravures. You may submit up to 5 prints. The work must be framed. Submissions due by February 24.

Jaz Graf is presenting mixed media drawings in TFAP@TEN, an exhibit- ion of six artists in honor of The Feminist Art Project's 10th Anniversary, at the Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series Galleries, Douglass Library at Rutgers State University. The show will continue to April 8, 2016. The other artists exhibiting are Anonda Bell, Nancy Cohen, So Yoon Lym, Babs Reingold and Adrienne Wheeler. An artists' discussion, free and open to the public, with Celebration party following, will take place on Thursday, March 3rd at 5pm in the Mabel Smith Douglass Room in the Douglass Library.

Takuji Hamanaka will be showing his prints in a group exhibition with 12 artists entitled Contemporary Mokuhanga at Cade Tompkins Projectsgallery, from February 13 until April 16, 2016. Editions by 4 Artists Created at The Lower East Side Printshop The Print Center, in Philadelphia, PA, is showing new work by Derrick Adams, Matthew Day Jackson, Dread Scott and Kate Shepherd. The show will continue to April 23, 2016. The Center is located at 1614 Latimer Street.

Galleries 691-693 and 690
Two exhibitions in the galleries often dedicated to printmaking at the Metropolitan Museum of Art explore the social contexts and circulations of printed art. In 691-693, The Power of Prints (to May 22) commemorates the centenary of the Museum's Department of Prints by celebrating the legacies of its founding curator, William M. Ivins, and his protége, A. Hyatt Mayor. Combining connoisseurship with research in print technology and audience reception, these outstanding scholars put forward an inclusive idea of print media. In Gallery 690, Wordplay (to April 11) features not only the remarkable micrographic drawings of Matthias Buchinger, from the collection of Ricky Jay, but also a supplementary display of contemporary prints by Jasper Johns, Suzanne McClelland, Glenn Ligon, Christopher Wool and others. These works continue the headlined themes of writing and the limits of legibility/readibility.  
William Kentridge: The Nose Series
on view at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, in Norwalk, CT,until March 19, 2016, features prints from the series of over 30 images by this celebrated South African artist that utilize linocut blocks, collage and drawing to explore visual themes expanding from the 19th century satirical story by Nicolai Gogol and the 20th century opera by Dmitri Shostakovich, based on Gogol's text. Kentridge's stage and costume design for the opera was much heralded in the Metropolitan Opera's NYC production. Also on view are prints by the South African artist Stephen Hobbs in an exhibition titled Landlocked City, exploring the landscape of Johannesburg. contemprints.org
Printing Women:
Three Centuries of Female Printmakers, 1570-1900
is the show on view at the New York Public Library Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street, in the third floor Prints and Stokes Galleries. The library description states that this collection has not been shown since 1901 and will feature well-established artists such as Angelica Kauffman. The exhibit will continue to May 27, 2016.
Re:visioning HANJI
will be an exhibition showcasing artworks made from hanji, Korean traditional mulberry fiber paper by artists Ran Hwang and Aimee Lee, a former MGC scholarship award artist, at the Korean Cultural Service of New York at 460 Park Avenue, 6th floor, NYC. The exhibition will open on February 24 and continue to March 31. The exhibition will narrate the long history of hanji alongside new pieces by the contemporary artists. 212-759-9550
The Rozz Tox Effect: Publications by Gary Panter 1972-2016
The first exhibition to survey the publications and multiples of Gary Panter will open at Printed Matter on February 19 and continues to March 19. Curated by Dan Nadel, the show includes punk graphic zines, mini-comics, silkscreen books and designs for Pee-Wee Playhouse.
